Hosted by AMG Vice Chairman Ian Campbell, Abernathy MacGregor and a select group of firm friends and clients in Los Angeles were recently joined by Vanity Fair contributing editor Bethany McLean for an engaging Salon Dinner conversation. The evening touched upon a range of timely topics from the financial sustainability of American fracking to the unfinished business of the 2008 mortgage crisis…as well as the state of journalism today and what lies on the horizon.
Among the most prolific business journalists of our time, Bethany first became well known for her 2001 Fortune article, often cited as one of the first investigative pieces to question Enron’s business practices ahead of the company’s collapse.
Bethany is the author of a series of business books chronicling some of the most consequential business stories of recent decades, including “The Smartest Guys in the Room” (Enron); “All the Devils Are Here” (the 2008 Financial Crisis); and “Shaky Ground” (the unresolved plight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac). Her new book, “Saudi America” examines America’s fracking industry from a financial—as opposed to environmental—point of view.
