Who We Are
Sarah Knakmuhs helps companies solve complex public policy and public affairs issues. She is an accomplished corporate executive with a strong financial and business background that includes extensive government affairs experience, leading an investor relations team during a major M&A transaction, and managing the launch of a new product/brand. She has over 20 years of leadership experience working for a regulated Fortune 200 company in the consumer-packaged goods sector. Sarah has a track record of quickly and successfully developing innovative, strategic solutions in challenging situations. She regularly works with a diverse group of stakeholders including: elected officials, the investment community, international partners, regulatory officials and the media. Sarah has extensive background speaking to a large variety of audiences ranging from corporate Boards to advisory committees of the FDA.
In Sarah’s most recent role, she ran a large public policy and government affairs team, with a focus on fiscal issues. Her team was responsible for a broad range of public affairs responsibilities including: developing policy on emerging issues economic analysis, research, digital campaigns running state ballot campaigns, local lobbying, and managing third party relationships.
Sarah joined Abernathy MacGregor after spending fourteen years at Altria where she held numerous senior roles including Vice President Government Affair and Public Policy; Vice President, Brand; and Vice President Investor Relations. She also served as Tax Counsel at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and worked at KPMG’s Washington National Tax Practice. She was a guest lecturer at the University of Richmond School of Business.
